The Asian Street Food and Music Festival Celebrates Asian Culture in Harvard Square

The Asian Street Food and Music Festival was held on May 7, 2023, in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The festival is one of the annual events of the Harvard Square Philippine American Alliance (HSPAA) and is intended to bring the Asian American community together by showcasing a panorama of our rich heritage and traditions through music, dance, and food.
The festival was held in partnership with the Harvard Square Business Association’s Annual Mayfair, and featured live music on multiple stages from different eras, catering to a multi-generational crowd. There were also international vendors of crafts and items, including those uniquely from Asia, as well as festive beer gardens from both local and international businesses.
Attendees of the festival had the opportunity to learn more about Asian culture through a variety of activities, including:
- Live music: There were performances by a variety of Asian American musicians, including traditional and contemporary artists.
- Dance performances: There were also dance performances by Asian American dance troupes, showcasing the diversity of Asian dance forms.
- Street Food: There were over 20 food vendors at the festival, offering a variety of Asian street food, from dumplings and noodles to curries and sushi.
- Crafts and merchandise: There were also over vendors selling Asian crafts, jewelry, clothing, and other merchandise.
The festival was a great way for people of all ages to learn more about Asian culture and enjoy a day of food, music, and fun. It was also a great opportunity for the Asian American community to come together and celebrate their heritage.
The festival was supported by a number of organizations, including the Philippine Consulate in New York, the Philippine Department of Tourism, the Harvard-Radcliffe Asian American Association, Subtle Asian Boston, the Philippine Harvard Forum, and the Harvard office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
The Asian Street Food and Music Festival is a great example of how community organizations can come together to celebrate diversity and promote cultural awareness. It is also a reminder of the rich and vibrant Asian American community that exists in Cambridge and throughout the Boston area.
